Raufikat Oyawoye: Where Are They Now?

Raufikat Oyawoye won season 4 of The Great Canadian Baking Show in April 2021, and then did something no Canadian winner before her had managed: she got her own show out of it. The Milton, Ontario baker, an engineer by training who works in IT, turned a pandemic-delayed season into one of the franchise's better second acts. Here is where she has been since.

The season 4 win

Season 4 was the show's strange one: delayed by the pandemic, it premiered in February 2021 and crowned its winner in April, the only season to air in spring. It was also the first with hosts Ann Pornel and Alan Shane Lewis, who have fronted the show ever since. Oyawoye, then 35, took the title with judges Bruno Feldeisen and Kyla Kennaley presiding, and her win was celebrated internationally, with Nigerian outlets proudly covering the Nigerian-born engineer's victory. Raufikat's Better Bake Show

The win turned into a hosting gig. CBC gave her Raufikat's Better Bake Show, a digital series in which she tries to pass her kitchen wisdom on to the show's own hosts, the two Toronto comedians who fronted her winning season. It is a small format with a great engine: a genuinely skilled baker teaching two funny people who are genuinely bad at it.

She also kept the day job. Coverage from the Ontario Network of Women in Engineering leaned into her engineer-who-bakes identity, and she has described balancing her career as a business analyst with the baking work. In November 2023 she returned to the tent for the show's holiday special alongside other past winners.

Where things stand now

Oyawoye (also credited as Raufikat Oyawoye-Salami) remains one of the more visible Canadian champions: podcast appearances, speaking features, the CBC digital series, and the holiday special return. She has not opened a bakery or published a cookbook as of this writing, but among the show's winners she is one of the few who built an ongoing on-camera presence from the title.
