About MasterChef (US)

Fox's flagship cooking competition hands amateur home cooks a professional kitchen, a mystery box, and a panel of judges led by Gordon Ramsay, then asks them to cook like their lives depend on it. It is a savory show first, but the pastry rounds, dessert pressure tests, and plating standards give baking fans plenty to chew on. The scale of it, big prize, big kitchen, big personalities, makes it the loudest sibling in this whole genre.

The format

Home cooks battle through mystery box challenges, invention tests, team challenges, and pressure tests, with eliminations narrowing the field each week until a finale cook-off crowns the MasterChef. The winner takes the title, the trophy, and a $250,000 prize.

The prize

$250,000 plus a cookbook deal
